The Challenge
The client approached Cito at the ideation phase of a Portable DNA Detection Device and tasked Cito with designing the device from the ground up. The system needed to perform sample preparation, amplification, and electronic chip based detection. This project was run in conjunction with the Adaptable Microfluidics Consumable design, of which the latest version can be found here.
Detailed Services
- Design for Microfluidics Instrument
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Software Engineering
- Industrial Design + Human Factors
- Custom Firmware and GUI
- FEA
- Rapid Prototyping
- 3D Printing
- Machining
- Manufacturing
- Pre-Production
The Outcome
Cito was able to take the client from concept to prototype in under 12 months. The instrument was designed for injection molding from the start, removing the typical design for machining manufacturing iteration, and saving the client time and money. Additionally, the final design was a flexible testing platform, enabling the client to use the same device for many different types of tests.
Cito went on to design subsequent versions of this device, the latest can be found here.
