The Challenge

Cito was approached to help the client improve the design of their Cancer Pathology Test Cell. The predicate device design had challenges with instrument corrosion and required a significant amount of maintenance. Additionally, a solution was needed to prevent cross contamination issues inside the life science instrument during pathology testing.

Detailed Services

  • Design for two-shot molded parts with living hinge and insert-molded Mechanical Valves
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • 3D Printing
  • Rapid Prototyping
  • Design for Manufacturability

The Outcome

The next generation design extended the life of the device by 25% and eliminated instrument corrosion as well as cross contamination, significantly increasing the accuracy of the test cell. Cito reduced the need for bulk instrument reagents by including lyophilized beads within the consumable. The new design decreased the maintenance and out of service time, improving the end-user experience considerably.
