The Challenge
The client had an Intraosseous IV Delivery Device that was used by first responders to facilitate delivery of drugs or fluid into a patient’s bone marrow when veins are collapsed or inaccessible. Cito was engaged to redesign the housing for the device to use injection molded parts for a less expensive, more efficient product. The challenge was to maintain the shape but create a more robust model that allowed for dimensional changes.
Detailed Services
- Design for Injection Molding
- Mechanical Engineering
- Mechanical Design
- Injection Molding
- 3D Modeling
- Ruggedized testing
- Reduction in size
- Industrial Design
- Human factor design and testing
- Following ISO 13485 procedures
- Design for Manufacturing
The Outcome
Cito’s team optimized the housing design to create a more cost effective device for the client. The outer shell was simplified from 102 features to 28 for much more efficient production, and the battery pack area was stabilized. The human factors were improved and the enhanced design allowed for part modification in the future.
